About ERO

The University Grants Commission (UGC) was formerly inaugurated on December 28th 1953 and is considered as an apex body for higher education in India. In order to ensure effective regionwise coverage throughout the country,

the UGC decentralized its functions by opening six regional offices at Kolkata, Pune, Hyderabad, Bhopal, Guwahati and Banglore. The head office of the UGC is located at Bahadurshah Zafar Marg in New Delhi,

with two additional bureaus operating from 35, Ferozeshah Road and the Delhi University South Campus as well. The Eastern Regional Office, Kolkata was one of them.

It was set up in the year 1995 and covers the states of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha. There are 32 universities and 1300 colleges under the preview of UGC-ERO, Kolkata

7. Autonomous Colleges
8. Faculty Development Programme (Colleges)
9. Development of Sports Infrastructure and Equipment *
10. Minor Research Projects
11. Seminar/Conferences for Colleges
12. Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)
* Discontinued under 12th plan
